I’ve been doing a bit of work recently on Windows Server 2008 and I just noticed Microsoft has rearranged the search function within their newest Operating Systems. Here’s the fix to the most common complaint about the new setup.

The new search “enhancements” apply to Windows Vista with SP1 and Windows Server 2008, and involve the removal of the contextual search option. To restore the right-click menu item, delete the following two keys, which are listed below in a reg file format, i.e. delete LegacyDisable.

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\find]
“LegacyDisable”=-

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\find]
“LegacyDisable”=-

Now that search is comfortably back in line with the universe, maybe you’re feeling ambitious enought to try out the advanced operators: windowsvistablog.com/blogs/windowsvista/pages/advanced-search-techniques.aspx
