I was doing some work recently with Certificates under Windows Server 2003 and came across this bit of information that I was unaware of.
There are version 1 and version 2 certificate templates available in Windows 2003. However, ONLY Windows 2003 Enterprise and Datacenter can issue certificates based on certificate templates version 2. Windows 2003 Standard can only create version 2 templates.
Good to know before going into a long troubleshooting process trying to determine why somthing isn’t working like you expect on a Standard edition server certificate authority.
